I am in the process of re-designing a few components for the 8-Bit Ukulele (http://8bitukulele.com/) and a big one is re-doing the way the neck is designed and built. This is the updated neck.
This new version was made to try milling on the CNC. I suppose you could 3D print this if you had a large enough printer.
Originally, the neck was laser cut out of slices of 1/4" Birch plywood in different profiles to make the pixel-y design of the head. Which seemed clever at the time but this proved to be less than optimal structurally.
I took the slices into Autodesk Fusion 360 and extruded them into the layers, then combined the layers together as designed.
