I acquired some inline 12V LED switches that use an infrared sensor to turn the following LED light strips on/off/dim. They're cool, I'll put the URL from AliExpress in the end of this text, and okay, okay - I got a dozen of them so I was definitely wanting to use them.

But they need a special housing that you eithe rbuy or make to fit them. Having spent my princely sum of a few bucks on these little beauties, I wasn't going to spend another princely sum getting cases that I didn't even like. I don't have the URL for them, can't remember if I saw them on AE or somewhere else, sorry. And anyway - this model's all about MAKING A HOUSING FOR THE SWITCH so why would you need to buy one? All it takes is an hour on an Ender3 Pro and peanuts in PLA.

I just measured the little board, added .25mm and used that in TinkerCAD to make a base and a cover for the board. It's friction fit and designed to be superglued together due to the extremely low price of everything and also I can't see something this simple failing any time quickly. There are two 3.5mm holes or you could just glue it to the surface you're mounting it on.

ONE OTHER GOTCHA, the boards had a bit of variation in the position of the IR sensor so I ended up remaking the cover with a slightly oversize opening, and it's easy to trim or file out if needed. The IR sensor isn't in the centre, either, so the hole in the cover is off centre. But the cover goes on the base both ways around. Also I may make a more streamlined case with a deeper cover one day (or you could remix and let me know where I can grab a copy) but these are mostly going in the kitchen and workbench to control lighting and the more industrial look suits me.

UPDATE 18 July 2022: I moved the opening for the IR sensor and enlarged it, it now fits all of my devices. (There were small variations in the half dozen devices, as though they were asembled by hand perhaps. Your mileage may vary.)

I didn't file or sand anything, you may want to do that. I used white PLA just because, but these would look wicked in black, and also would be great as a colour-coded "wave hands say theremin style light control" board.
