Design Concepts
This model features a scale representation of the planets in our solar system. The detailed textures and accurate proportions make it ideal for educational purposes or as a decorative piece.
Purposes
It serves as a learning tool for astronomy enthusiasts and educators to demonstrate the planet arrangements and their sizes in comparison to one another.
Printing Recommendations
Consider printing the model with a high-resolution printer to capture all the detailed textures. Multi-color or dual-extrusion printers can enhance the visual appeal by distinguishing each planet with its own distinct color.
Assembly Instructions
If the planets are printed separately, they should be assembled in order starting from Mercury to Neptune for educational or display purposes. Use a strong adhesive for a more permanent display setup.Layers and Quality
Layer Height:
0.2 mm → good quality/time compromise ✅
0.12–0.16 mm → more detail (recommended for fine relief)
Line Width: Standard (0.4 mm)
Infill
For wall art, no infill is needed:
10–15% infill
Pattern: Gyroid or Grid
If it's thin: even 0% (walls only) is fine
Walls and Top/Bottom
Walls: 2–3 (0.8–1.2 mm)
Top/Bottom: 4–5 layers
👉 Improves strength without weighing it down
Speed
50–60 mm/s (standard)
If you want more quality: 40 mm/s
Print Orientation (very important)
For wall art:
Print flat on the plate
"Beautiful" side up
Use a light brim (3–5 mm) if the Surface is large
❌ Avoid printing vertically: it degrades quality and increases the risk of failures.
Supports
NO supports, if possible
If there are overhangs:
Supports only from the bed
Low density (10–12%)
Temperature (PLA)
Nozzle: 200–210°C
Bed: 55–60°C
Fan: 100% from the 2nd–3rd layer
Post-processing (recommended)
For a true wall art effect:
Sand lightly (220 → 400 grit)
Spray primer
Acrylic or matte spray paint
Optional: Matte clear coat for a premium finish
