They are larger because they are meant for those who replace their Piezo sensors.  You should use an M4 fender washer to push against the spring or silicone column if you choose to replace the springs.

They have an integrated lock washer in housing in them so that you can use the lock washer against the washer to help reduce the likelihood of needing to adjust these often.
