I liked Tiques77 4-part Eiffel Tower, and I wanted to create a model like that and with RGBIC LED Lighting. I used CC3D Transparent PETG Filament and that actually printed translucently. If I did again, I'd probably aim for a more transparent Filament. I Used PETG just in case there was a heating issue. 

I enlarged the original to 145% (45cm) to take full advantage of my printing surface. The RGBIC LED Light strip is USB powered and has an app for both Android and iPhone. I chose this type of light strip because of low heat and the ability to address individual LEDs.  One thing I want try is to have the tower lit up in Tricolour as it is on Bastille Day. That's still on my to-do list.

To achieve the overall lighting effect, I used a negative shaft in the main tower (mid_2) piece and added a transparent pipe to the middle tower piece (mid_1). Initially I had intended to print the two pieces as one but due to a problem with supports, I printed them separately and this worked out to be better as it gave me more flexibility. I used Xander's great .scad file to make the required auger pieces for the led strip to attach and wind up

I then needed to find a way to light up the base, is which is quite open, and to achieve this I added a dome to the bottom of the base. This dome has a strip of LEDs inside it before being guided up the tower using the mounted auger pieces. The tower printed so well that the only actual gluing was between mid_1 and the base. All other pieces including the dome, the tray under the base and the top of the tower fitted together perfectly and provided me with some flexibility when inserting the LED strips. 

A trick I used to feed the light strip through the mid_2 tower was to use a piece of string weighted with small nuts and bolt and a loop at the other end to allow me to fold over the led strip and drag it up to the top of the tower. 

This is still a work in progress as I want to experiment with lighting effects and I'm even considering an extended base that replicates to some extent, the Champs de Mars and may give me an opportunity to add some hidden upward lighting effects.
