Upgrades your old Ultimaker Original to direct drive using an Orbiter extruder. I use the 2.85mm version since I am also using a second printer from Ultimaker and want to use the same filament rolls for both.
With this upgrade I can print TPU, nice. A use for my old printer which still runs after all those years. I Include all CAD files (Fusion360) and step files. Note, compared to the pictures, the CAD is updated to include some improvements that became obvious during assembly. There are two slots for mounting cables with zip ties.
Needed:
- Orbiter F2.85
- E3D V6 hotend
- 2x 40mm fans
- printed fan ducts from “E3d V6 hot end mount”
http://www.youmagine.com/designs/e3d-v6-hot-end-mount - 8x M3x5mm threaded inserts
- 2x M3x10mm hex socket screw (to mount Orbiter)
- 12x M3x12mm hex socket screw (to mount fans and ducts)
- 2x M3x16mm hex socket screw (to mount E3D V6 hotend)
I printed it all in PC (blend) from Ultimaker. The tube bracket may be used to guide the bowden tube and cables to the filament roll holder at the back. Use the original extruder bowden tube fitting.
I loaded a new firmware to allow easy changes to the motor current of the extruder. I changed the current to 500mA, then the motor does not get to hot and I did not have any issues with missing steps. See here: https://bultimaker.bulles.eu/
