Summary
I developed this for my Flashforge Creator X, but it should work with any Flasforge Creator Pro or similar Makerbot Dual clone as long as the X carriage dimensions are the same.
This assembly allows you to replace the original dual "MK10" extruder setup with a more modern Phaetus / TriangleLabs Dragon / E3D V6 or Revo Six hotend and Bondtech BMG stepper for greater reliability and performance. It includes the necessary mounting solution for excellent part cooling for PLA, ABS and other materials. Additionally, there are provisions for a SuperPinda probe to support Klipper bed mesh and a mounting point for a chamber temp sensor.

Print Settings
Printer Brand:
FlashForge
Printer:
Creator Pro
Rafts:
No
Supports:
Yes
Resolution:
.2mm
Infill:
40%
Notes:
Please ensure your printer is calibrated correctly before printing! I suggest using a Voron Calibration Cube. Parts are designed to be snug in the X carriage and may not fit or have slop if not properly calibrated.
Only the Top part requires supports.
Since these parts are close to your hotend, I recommend ABS, ASA or other filament with a high glass transition temperature. PETG and PLA are NOT recommended!
- Layer height: 0.2mm
- Extrusion width: 0.4mm, forced
- Infill pecentage: 40%
- Infill type: grid, gyroid, honeycomb, triangle, or cubic
- Solid top/bottom layers: 5
- Wall count: 4
Note: If you want to use a PindaProbe and do not have a M8x1.0 tap, you can try printing the Base at 0.1mm layer height and see if that helps make it easier to screw in the probe.
Please note, that the fan duct is not of my own design! I'm using this model here: https://github.com/DrLex0/print3D-ffcp-left-cooling-duct/blob/master/FFCP-MonoDuct_v3_x1.stl
Post-Printing
Additional parts
- You will need 12 M3 x 5mm heat set inserts and a soldering iron to install them
- M3 bolts of various lengths (8, 12, 20, 40mm)
- Bondtech BMG (or clone) extruder with right side access door
- Phaetus (or TriangleLabs) Dragon hotend
- 5015 24V blower
- 4010 24V fan
- NEMA17 stepper with max 23mm body length (StepperOnline 17HE08-1004S or equivalent)
- 24V 40W heater
- 3x15mm thermocouple temperature sensor for hotend
- Appropriate wires and connectors
- You will need some "Crazy Glue" aka cyanoacrylate
- You will need to print this fan duct: https://github.com/DrLex0/print3D-ffcp-left-cooling-duct
Optional:
- An additional 3x15mm thermocouple for the chamber temp sensor
- SuperPinda probe for doing a bed mesh with Klipper
- M8x1.0 tap
- Some gold foil insulation tape (strongly recommended)
Assembly
- Install two M3 x 5mm heat set inserts into the bottom of the Top part
- Install three M3 x 5mm heat set inserts into the back of the Top part
- Install two M3 x 5mm heat set inserts into the top of the Rear part
- Install four M3 x 5mm heat set inserts into the holes in the Fan Mount
- If you have gold foil insulation tape, now is a good time to apply that to the Base to protect the bottom from the heat of the hotend.
- If you are using the SuperPinda probe and do not have a M8x1.0 tap, now is a good time to install that into the base. Not having the Top in the way will make installing it much easier!
- Using some M3-8mm bolts as a guide and help with compression, align the Base and Top parts. Then use cyanoacrylate glue to glue them together. Set aside and let glue fully dry.
- Once glue is dry, install the two M3 x 5mm heat set inserts in the side of the assembly.
- Use three M3-8mm bolts to attach the rear and glued assembly.
- Insert the Dragon hotend through the bottom of the assembly and attach the Bondtech BMG extruder. Be sure to use the appropriate length of PTFE tubing between the hotend and extruder!
- Using three M3-40mm bolts, attach the NEMA17 stepper to the assembly & extruder.
- Using two M3-12mm bolts, attach the 4010 fan to the assembly.
- Using two M3-12mm bolts, attach the assembly to your X carriage.
- Using two M3-8mm bolts, attach the fan mount to the assembly
- Using two M3-20mm bolts, attach the 5015 blower to the fan mount
- Install the heater and thermocouple in the heater block and route the wires through the front hole
- Using one M3-8mm bolt, attach the linked fan duct (linked provided above) to the assembly (recommend to use gold foil tape to protect ducts!)
- Verify your stepper does not make contact with the frame when homing Y axis.
- Verify the tab on the Rear makes contact with the X axis end stop.
- Verify your wiring and recalibrate your printer!
- Note that the stock extruder steppers are rated for 1.3A but the shorter stepper is rated for 1A. You should verify the stepper driver current to ensure it doesn't over heat.
Optional:
- If installing the SuperPinda probe, use a M8x1.0 tap to clean up the printed threads. Note that this is M8x1.0 and not the more common M8x1.25!
- Install the SuperPinda probe (use one lock washer and nut on the bottom) and ensure the probe is 1-2mm above the hotend nozzle
- If using a chamber temp sensor, you can use either a standard 3x15mm thermocouple like in the hotend or an external monitor like the HC520 available on Amazon, Walmart, etc which uses a 4mm diameter sensor. Use the appropriate fan bracket!
