Modular Dollhouse Project: Designing the Perfect Toy in PETGHello, makers! I’m sharing the progress of my most personal project yet: a Modular Dollhouse designed from scratch for my daughter. The project is currently in the development and testing phase, as I optimize every fit to achieve the perfect balance between durability and ease of assembly.
📐 The Concept: Big, Strong, and ScalableThe goal is to create a system that isn't just a toy, but a construction kit. The current prototype dimensions are generous:
Height: 32 cm
Width: 60 cm
Depth: 15 cm
The best part of this Fusion 360 design is its modularity: you can print additional modules to expand the house as much as you want—the only limit is your imagination (and your shelf space)!
🛠️ Engineering and Material ChallengesI’ve decided to migrate this project to PETG. Why? Because PLA tends to be too brittle for toys that are constantly assembled and disassembled. PETG provides the necessary toughness so the joints can withstand daily "wear and tear" without snapping.
What I’m currently fine-tuning:
Manual Tolerance Tests: I’m refining the offsets in Fusion 360 so the assembly feels firm but doesn't require excessive force.
Creality Print Optimization: Adjusting perimeters to ensure walls are lightweight yet structurally sound.
Quality Control (Filament): Currently battling some humidity issues with my PETG filament on my Creality HI. I'm in the process of stabilizing the extrusion to ensure the final parts are flawless.
Project Status: 🚧 Under active development. The parts shown in the photos are functional prototypes used to validate scale and mechanical fit.🖨️ Project Roadmap[x] Base design in Fusion 360.

UPDATE Modular Dollhouse Project: The Pool & Slide Update!
Hello, makers! I’m back with a significant update on my modular dollhouse project, designed from scratch and printed in PETG for my daughter. The base structure is evolving, and based on some "client" feedback (and a bit of creative fun), I’ve integrated two new modules that take the playability to the next level.
🏊♂️ New Design Features: The Slide and Splash PoolI’ve added two key elements that expand the play area both vertically and horizontally:
The Modular Slide (Blue): This module clips directly onto the second-floor main columns. I’ve designed it with a smooth curve for a fluid "ride," using a vibrant cyan to contrast against the main structure. The Splash Pool (white): An independent base module with an organic kidney shape. The slide leads directly into it, creating a fully integrated play zone.
💬 Any Advice?Since the project is still a work in progress, I’d love to know: What accessories or rooms would you like to see in a modular system like this? I’ll be updating the progress once I get the filament humidity under control and polish the final details of the connectors
