I recently built a custom handheld game console for a university project using the powerful ESP32 microcontroller. Since I couldn't find a case that perfectly fit my specific component layout (especially the joystick and the battery setup), I designed this one from scratch using Blender.
I designed the case to be comfortable to hold and easy to assemble. It houses the electronics securely and has cutouts for the charging port and switch.
The components I used for this build are:
MCU: ESP32 Development Board (38-pin version recommended)
Screen: 1.3'' OLED Display (I2C, Driver SH1106)
Controls:
1x Analog Joystick Module (for movement)
4x Tactile Push Buttons (for actions/direction)
Power:
2x Li-ion Batteries (2S Configuration, ~8.4V)
TP4056 / CN3302 Charging Module
On/Off Switch
Audio: Passive Buzzer
Misc: Resistors for voltage divider (battery monitoring) and wires.
Assembly: The design consists of a main body and a back cover. You can secure the components using hot glue or small mounting screws depending on your specific board variation. The back cover is designed to be closed with standard M3 screws.
The design is simple and prints easily without special supports if oriented correctly. I've included the STL files. I encourage you to remix the design or modify it for your needs (maybe add shoulder buttons?).
