After purchasing a new subwoofer, I soon found out that the old windows in my flat rattle when the full bass power is unleashed. This led me to try to isolate the vibrations transferred to the floor from the subwoofer.
I've combined the idea of squash balls being good cheap isolators many people use as feet for 3d printers, and also aftermarket isolation legs offered by many audiofile companies for quite exorbitant prices.
Parts needed:
- 4x printed feet
- 4x felt pads (I bought the ones used for furniture and made holes in the center using the paper hole puncher for binding documents)
- 4x washer (dimensions on photo)
- 4x screw (M6 x 20 I think but some speakers/subwoofers have M8 - test before buying and edit the model if needed)
- 4x squash ball ( I used the double yellow dot as it should absorb the most vibrations)
Printed with 100% infill for stiffness from PLA without supports, but basically anything goes.
All in all the cost is essentially only dependent on how cheap you can get the squash balls and if you can handle the “oriental looks” :) I am very happy with the difference, sound is still great but a lot less vibrations going to the floor. Neighbors sure are happy too.
