I was looking for a method of having Octoprint sense filament runout. Stumbled across:

I found the sensing in rwmech's thing a bit unpredictable - there was too much space around the filament guide and not enough room for the switch in the open position.

Using rwmech's recommended ESP8266 and a kw11-3z switch I found the relative placement of parts pretty consistent and hence this design.

Follow rwmech's instructions but note that the sketch needs to be modified slightly: All the occurrences of

http.begin(

need to be revised to

http.begin(client,

(I'm using the 1.8.13 version if Arduino IDE)
