Summary
pulling from the gridfinity idea, I wanted to make a customizable ammo container that was easy to print, easy to design, and easy to modify. I think that I have accomplished those with this initial design.
Overview
I have include a 25 pack that fits easily in any range bag or stashed in a glove compartment. I have also include all of the base pieces so you can assemble your own ammo container that fits whatever size you are needing. I would suggest experimenting if you go large on your container. I am not sure at what point the plastic would flex and not be able to hold the lower portion on the small rails. The bottom rides on the rails of the cover and then snaps into place with little nubs that fit into the cover. When you build the cover you can also add cuts to customize. I added a cover that identifies the type of ammo as an example.
How to Print:
The Bottom
use the center, lip, and lip front to create the ammo holders. The edges of the pieces are meant to overlap so you can get a nice tight packing of ammo. See the screenshot for how to overlap. The lip front has the nubs that will click and seat into the cover so you will need at least one for each side (take a look at the 25 pack to get the idea)
The Cover - use the backcover, topcover, rail, and rail front to create the cover for the bottom. I have found that leaving a little bit of space between the inside of the cover and the bottom works well and the spacing I use is 1mm spacing between cover and all relevant sides of the bottom. This gives enough clearance to move easily but close enough to feel solid (take a look at the 25 pack to get the idea). You will want to stretch the back cover, top cover, and rails to the sizes they need to be for the size of ammo box you are creating. Leave the rail front as that that has space carved out for the front of the bottom of the box already.
If you orient the print like the cura screenshot, you should be able to get away with minimal supports. Just enough for the side lips on the bottom. At 65g for the 25 box, it is a pretty light weight print and 2 of the 25 count boxes comes out to about 17% smaller than a normal box of ammo you can pick up in the store.
Hope you enjoy!!
