This is a wheelbarrow handle. It was printed so to replace the broken handles on my wheelbarrow.
I have designed them with thicker walls, so they hopefully last longer than the original ones.
I printed them in transparent blue PETG, which looks very nice and appealing on my wheelbarrow. But to be honest, it was the biggest stock of PETG filament that I own, so it needed to be used :)
I have added the original FreeCAD design files so you can adjust it to different diameters. Be cautious, on my wheelbarrow, the left and right handles had slightly different size and while the handle fit perfect on one side, I had to glue it to the handle on the other side. I also had to deburr one of the handles.
The design could need some improvement at the ends of the grip supports - to be more rounded so that they do not hurt. In general, a more rounded grip support would probably be better. I manually grinded it as you can see in the picture.
The design was started as a test project to use AI for designing FreeCAD objects. AI was able to create the hollow cylinder and the cap on one end. When it came to the grip supports, AI did position it not like I wanted and also made design decisions which I was not happy with. After several rounds of instructing the AI to correct the design of the grip supports, I gave up and adjusted it on my own. I have to say that in summary, AI helped me to get started, but I had to continue the more complex part. In total, I think it was not faster than performing everything by hand, but it was also not slower.
I used Claude Opus 4.1 along with Claude Desktop as the AI.
