This is an attempt to convert the $99 101Hero Kickstarter printer into a modified Kossel Mini reusing as many of the 101Hero components as possible printed on the 101Hero (Size restrictions less than 110mm diameter and less than 100mm tall).
Note: This does require upgrading the tower motors to NEMA17 but it should be possible to reuse all other components (extruder, belts, steel rods, push rods, linear bearings, controller, etc.)
Current 3D Printed BOM:
3 frame top
3 frame bottom
33 75mm 2020 rails
54 rail connectors (M3 or M4)
90 25mm inner-fill
3 or 6 end caps (optional)
Extra hardware:
54 M3 or M4 nuts (size determined by rail connectors)
54 M3 or M4 x 4mm screws
36 M5 nuts
36 M5x10 hex bolts
If you want to use M3 or M4 bolts, I have included T-Nut models for M3 and M4 nuts. Washers may be required for smaller bolts.
Post-Printing
Step 1: Assemble Rails
The 3 tower rails are made up of 4 75mm rails joined at each join with 2 inner-fill and 2 connectors. Total length should be 350mm.
The 9 rails that connect the top frame ends together & the bottom frame ends together are made of 3 75mm rails joined the same way as the tower rails. Total length per rail should be 235mm.Step 2: Assemble frame top components
Insert 2 M5 bolts into the holes on one side of the frame top and loosely attach 2 M5 nuts.
Slide 2 of the inner fill pieces into slots adjacent to the 5mm nuts so 5mm sticks out.
Slide the M5 nuts into the channel of the 235mm rails and slide the tabs into the slots.
Tighten the M5 bolts (be careful not to crack the pieces)
Do the same thing for the remaining top frame pieces.
Step 3: Assemble frame bottom components
Using the same steps from the frame top, attach 2 235mm rails to the two positions on one side of the bottom frame.
Step 4: Install motors
Attached toothed gear to NEMA 17 motor.
Slide motor shaft into bottom frame and nest the cap of the motor in the cutout.
Attach motor to frame with existing screws from old motor mount.
Repeat for remaining motors.
Step 5: Assemble top & bottom frames
Slide M5 bold and attach nut on remaining rail side of all top & bottom frame components.
Attach 2 inner fill pieces to the unattached end of the 235mm rails. Make sure these are on the same sides as the attached end.
Slide M5 nuts into the slot of the rail and slide the tabs into the grooves of the frame piece.
Tighten the M5 bolts
Step 6: Mount vertical tower rails
Slide two M5x10 bolt through the end of the holes on the curved side of the bottom frame and loosely attach 2 M5 nuts.
Slide the 3 350mm rails into the 2020 slots on the frame bottom (the M5 nuts should slide into the channel of the rail) until they are level with the bottom of the piece.
Tighten the M5 bolts.
