Saw an advertisement on Facebook for these sunglasses that used polarizing lenses from a camera, thought I can make that!
This model uses no hardware and only requires a non-adhesive linear polarizing filter for the lenses. The hinges have a hole big enough for a piece of filament to be used as a pin, just melt one end flat, feed it through the hinge, trim, then melt and flatten the other end. Likewise, the nose rest has a hole or a piece of filament bent in a ‘U’ shape to attach to the hole on part C- Lock Ring.
For the lenses, use the cut guide to cut out 4 lenes and note the direction of the polarization. Glue one lens to the inside of the frame, the lens should fit in a grove located right at the front inside the frame. Glue the other lens to Part B - Slide Ring making sure to line up the polarization of the lenses before gluing in place. Next, before sliding Part B into the frame, make sure you've removed the inbuilt support tabs in the frame. Then slide Part B in and place the Part C - Locking Ring over the top and carefully glue in place making sure that Part B can still rotate.
Part E - the Hinges are glued in place on the sides of the frame and the arms + nose rest are attached as mentioned earlier with bits of filament.
PRINT SETTINGS FOR 0.4 NOZZLE:
- 0.2 layer height
- Only supports on part E - Hinge
- No brim (if your having adhesion problems, you could try a brim but since all the parts are thin, be careful when removing it)
- 0.42 line with
- Infill 25%
- 3 wall loops
THINGS TO CONSIDER.
- IDK if cheap polarizing film will protect your eyes from UV damage, I'm not a doctor so look at the sun at your own risk.
- Most filaments will melt if left in a hot environment (obviously) so I'd recommend using ASA, ABS, or whichever high temp filament you prefer.
- Careful with using superglue to attach parts, the fumes WILL HURT YOUR EYES. leave a lot of time for the glue to dry before trying on.
