there's some similar models out there, but none I could find that have ridges on the bottom and spikes on the top. 

I used PLA, printed it with it facing up as shown in pic.  the supports are a bit of a pain, so maybe try printing it on a different side.  I have no idea if its functional, I really never plan to actually use it besides to show people.
