I always do the lid of hot water bottles too tight.  Bit worried about the hot water spilling for my disabled son.

But once it cools, the lid often gets very hard to undo, so built this extension (shape is based on a radiator key - just a little bigger!)

The slot in the end just fits over the existing bottle handle, and provides extra leverage.
