Notes:
The model needs to be scaled down to fit your printer. The model pictured is scaled down to 20% of the original model. The tie down ring should be scaled the same but likely needs to be just a hair larger to fit properly. The original design has two mounted on opposite sides. I have included an individual tetrahedron that is full size that will fit within a 300mm x 300mm bed if you want to print out 20 of them and make a really big one.
Post-Printing
Getting reflectivity
We used quite a few layers of stainless steel paint to build up a good thick covering. Gives pretty good results in our test tank
We have not tried any of the "metal" filaments to see if that worked. We may explore if a local plating service could possibly put a good layer of chrome or something on it.
How I Designed This
Drafted in Solidworks 2015. It is a collection of 20 tetrahedrons (corner reflectors) hollowed out then linked together as an assembly. Not precise tetrahedrons as that doesn't fit together properly. The height of the tetrahedron is slightly less than the length of the sides. This is based on a real world design that is a welded metal assembly.
