Official OpenWeedLocator Enclosure
A rugged, water resistant, drop resistant enclosure for outdoor image collection and computer vision with the Raspberry Pi (3B+, 4, and 5). Supports mounting the HQ, Global Shutter, V2 and Camera Module 3 cameras.
The enclosure was designed for the open-source OpenWeedLocator (OWL) project, to improve the accessibility of precision weed control tools and computer vision on agricultural equipment. The Raspberry Pi can be fitted with a relay HAT or the custom, OWL driver board to allow the actuation of solenoids or other devices based on image analysis (conventional computer vision or deep learning).
Printing
All parts were printed with Bambu Labs PETG at 25% infill and 0.16mm layer height on a P1S printer. Supports are needed for the front- and backplates, the tray (non essential but improves quality) and the lens mount.
The camera mount is only needed to mount the Camera Module 3 and V2 cameras to the frontplate.
Three backplate options are provided:
- 1 x hole for the Amphenol EcoMate Aquarius receptacle (part number: FLS710N3W3S03)
- 2 x holes for the Amphenol EcoMate Aquarius receptacle and Adafruit waterproof RJ45 (ethernet) connector
- 1 x 16mm hole for a 16mm cable gland.
Only one is required.
Additional Parts
Besides cameras, the Raspberry Pi and peripherals, the enclosure requires:
- 8 x M2 heat-set threaded inserts and 8 x M2 hex head screws (lens mount)
- 8 x M4 heat-set threaded inserts and 8 x M4 hex head screws (front/backplates)
- Nitrile rubber o-ring cord, 1.6mm and 3mm for the lens mount and front/backplate.
- 37mm UV lens filter to fit in the lens mount.
Assembly
Detailed assembly instructions are provided here on the Official OpenWeedLocator project page on GitHub.
