A simple but thought-out design for an articulated leg meant for my own future models, but also shared for the 3D printing community to use and remix. Can be scaled from 50% to 200% with no issues. If your printer’s tuned, I’m sure you can go even further.
The geometry was made specifically with 0.2 mm layer height in mind: overhangs, tolerances, fillets, and clearances. Everything’s print-tested, and works well! I was pleasantly surprised at the strength of the links once printed, even at 50% percent.
Files included:
.3mf, .step, and .f3z for a single link (so you can remix or resize easily)
Full leg assembly (minus boot) in .3mf, .step, and .f3z
.blend, .obj and .stl for the full leg with boot
Separate .blend and .obj files of just the boot
This whole thing started as my excuse to finally learn Fusion 360, since the only models I could manage to find were on some website I found through yeggi and they were problematic at best with really rough issues in the geometry. I'm sure others exist but I couldn't find them. Along the way I got better at Blender too; learned how to take a rough low-poly boot and turn it into something cleaner, and then integrate it with the rest of the leg.
