We have been very happy with one of the dust catchers someone made on printables, but because we used it for a very long time, the snap functions eventually got loose and it also felt maybe a bit too big and kept rolling down the filament.

So we made this much smaller design that has a lot of ways of snapping together. We were inspired by similar designs of small containers and especially the Print in place gear hinge by E. Soderberg: https://www.printables.com/model/120766-print-in-place-geared-hinge
Although I don’t know if the gears at this size even make a difference, but it looks cool!

This is made with the prusa enclosure in mind so the doors are able to close.
There are two files, the dust catcher as is in case you’re printing something brittle or like TPU where the filament guide isn’t helping, and the filament guide for the prusa enclosure with the dust catcher attached. 
We added places to grab onto so opening and closing the dust catcher should be easier.

We have had good experience using cut out pieces of cloth or sponge in the dust catcher. If you have a bit of stringing inside, there’s no need to remove it as it helps keep the sponge in place. 

Print
We have tried printing it with the layer heights 0,04 ; 0,05 ; 0,1 ; 0,2 and 0,3 so far the  most reliable result is 0.2 with good quality and fast printing time.
We just used the standard generic pla settings and structural 0.2

• Supports

This can be printed without supports, however the results may vary and it’s also such a small area that actually needs it.
Simply brush on the supports on the center connecting piece and that should be good enough, removing it afterwards with a plier is the way to go.
