This is a replica of the goggles worn by the engineer from Team Fortress 2. They are not using the actual model files from the game, but instead I have recreated myself in CAD using image reference. However, I tried to optimize them for FDM 3D printing specifically, so they are not a 100% match to the original goggles, but I think they are pretty close!
I made them to fit my face specifically, so keep that in mind if you try to print them yourself. I assume it should fit “most” faces though, especially if you decide to add some foam in strategic places on the inside.
This model only consists of the frame for the goggles, so you need to source some material for the actual “glass” part yourself. I used some 2 mm acrylic sheet cut on a scroll saw. The goggles in game are not pure transparent, but seem to have some golden/yellow hue to them. I had a roll of “kapton tape” laying around that I then applied to the cut out acrylic discs which gave a nice yellow tint to them.
Printing part list
- 1x frame.stl
- 2x eye-frame.stl
Other parts
- 2x 1-3 mm thick acrylic (or some other transparent material) in the shape of eye-glass.stl (a disc of diameter 45 mm)
- 1x elastic strap to keep the goggles on your head, as well as a needle and some thread (max width 25 mm)
Assembly instructions
- Cut out two glass discs from your material of choice. Also apply some colored kapton tape on top of each disc if you want the same effect as I have.
- Place the two discs in the recessed parts of each of the two eye-frame parts. Apply a small amount of super glue, or similar, if they are not "press fit"
- Then, insert the two eye-frame parts with the glass into the frame itself. This might require some force, but it should be doable. If it against all odds is too loose, also apply some super glue at this step as well
- Measure out some elastic strap to fit your head, and loop through the holes on each side of the goggles, and sew each loop it so it stays on your head.
