INTRODUCTION
Since the Raspberry Pi seems to be the go to compute module its only natural for us to support the Raspberry Pi Camera module. This is a 4 piece mount that can either be attached to the deck of your printer or if you prefer on one of the raised frame extrusions.
THE DESIGN
This enclosure was designed to keep things to a very minimal. Since the camera module is small, the enclosure for it is ~30x30mm. This is a 4 piece mount that can either be attached to the deck of your printer or if you prefer on one of the raised frame extrusions. The camera mount is small enough to mount to any extrusion.
BOM
It is recommended that you print this mount in either ABS or ASA as the camera tends to live inside the printer enclosure. All parts are oriented correctly to be able to print without the use of supports with exception of the Rear Cover. To print this add supports touching the bed only and you will be good to go.
Additional parts necessary are: -
- Connect the ribbon cable to the Raspberry Pi Camera module making sure the pins make proper contact. It is important to do this first as it will be tight to install later. Double confirm your ribbon cable is long enough to reach the Raspberry Pi - if it is not long enough purchase from Amazon or AliExpress depending on the length required.
- Mount the Raspberry Pi Camera module to the Front Plate - the 4 holes on the camera will align and have a snug fit.
- Push the Front Plate with the camera module into the Pi Cam Enclosure. This is a tight fit so do not worry about pressing it in.
- Attach the rear cover to close the camera module and pass the ribbon cable through the small gap behind the screw mount. This should be facing up if mounting at the base of the printer.
- Attach the Pi Camera housing to either the mount Deck mount or the Frame mount using an M3x20 SHCH screw with an M3 Nut.
- Attach the mount to the frame extrusion using an M5x8 BHCS screw and M5 T-Nut.
- ENJOY!
