Summary
This is a discreet helmet mount inspired by I Like To Make Stuff's Floating Helmet Display Mounts. His original design is shown here:
I recently finished my customized Mandalorian helmet and thought that Bob's design was perfect for how I wanted to display it so designed a printable version of his display mount. I used some felt furniture pads for padding and a bunch of strong rubber bands to keep the hinge closed. Since it is 3D printed, though, IT IS NOT RECOMMENDED THAT YOU USE THIS DESIGN TO MOUNT A HEAVY HELMET. This is just holding up a relatively light 3D printed/fiberglassed helmet, but I wouldn't recommend this design for any heavy medieval/metal helms.
The model labeled "helmetholderwithholes.stl" is designed with the intent of using #12 x 1 1/2 in flat Phillips screws, but I also included a blank version (helmetholderblankforedit.stl) so that anyone can add their own holes and/or countersinks for whatever mounting methods they wish to use. The tolerance between the parts of the hinge (original design by rohingosling) has been modified to print without supports with the model as it is already oriented (on its side) with 0.2 mm layer height.
Happy printing!
