How I Designed This
Ginger Bread House Design
When I saw the Thingiverse Ornament Challenge, I knew I wanted to enter! So I took the time to look through the entries and came up with the idea to do a gift box, shaped like a ginger bread house, that hangs on your Christmas tree! What could be better than a Christmas easter egg style present?
I started with the basic outline of the house, foundation, four walls, and a roof. From there I added some details, like shingles, a chimney, a step up to the house, a doorway, and some windows. Now I had the bones of the operation.
From that point, the icing on top, make it a genuine ginger bread house, because what is a ginger bread house without the decorations? I added candy canes, peppermints, gumdrops, and snow hanging off the roof.
Now that is was official a ginger bread house, there needs to be a way to make it an ornament. For that to happen, I made a whole in the house foundation for the base piece and a hole in the roof. This holes line up when you stack them together, make it easy to slide your ribbon or string through, tie a knot in the bottom and a bow on top.
Once assembled, place your gift inside and put it on the tree! Your loved one will be truly surprised at the extra effort you put in to show them how special they are to you.
