This clamp holder is designed to address the short-time storage needs of people who use white canes. The clamp holds a cane and backpack and clamps to the edge of a table making it easy for storage and retrieval in public spaces like restaurants and classrooms. The clamp was designed as homework for Future of Access Technology class taught by Prof Jennifer Mankoff at the University of Washington. While this started as homework, this clamp is actively in use and has been of great convenience to one of the creators who is a white cane user. This clamp was co-created by Venkatesh Potluri and Jazz Ang.
Customization
Users printing this would have to edit the code to create a clamp that fits their cane. You must edit the cane_thickness parameter.
Post-printing
One of the challenges we've faced was to make the clamp hold just the cane and not the backpack. We solved this by adding these magnets to the bottom of the clamp that sits on the table and covered it with this anti-slip rubber
