I'm so stupidly proud of this, absolutely the best design I've done so far.
My Syrian hamster needed new digs next, and he's bigger than the mice or the dwarf hamster, so I needed something with more room inside.
I used to make a big tower out of cardboard boxes that was set up to be an elaborate playland for the rodents, which I called the Hamstervitory. They've had to have other ways to do their out of cage playtime since the move because I no longer have an area where I can just install a little table for tiny shenanigans and both they and I have missed the Hamstervitory. I wanted Sasquatch to have an official Hamstervitory, that looks like an actual observatory rather than just being tower-like. And yes, I spell it Hamstervitory rather than Hamstervatory, because I think the portmanteau just looks/sounds better that way.
So I made a wee observatory, labeled it, hollowed it, and put in a fake decorative "telescope" in a small slit in the top just like a real observatory. The other nice thing about this feature is that it makes it a wee bit easier to clean with another opening, keeps a bit more air flowing in it, and, I made the telescope hollow, so it becomes a fun feature you can poke treaties or strands of hay inside- they can pull out the hay or learn to wait for their peanut to fall through the tube.
It came out better than I could possibly imagine and I adore it (especially in this sapphire silk filament which is outstanding in all ways) but after it printed and I tore out all the support material, I went back in and made a few small tweaks to improve on it. The first was making sure the telescope was all the way hollow (I missed a spot, so Sasquatch will miss out on that part, but he's a hamster and doesn't care) and the second was to make the entrance hole just a touch bigger (Sasquatch will fit, but if he was a bit plumper he might have to squeeze, and I will presumably be using this for many hammies to come). Finally, I moved the base and top a wee bit closer together, as there are a few tiny gaps between them in a couple of spots on my print so they needed just a touch more adhesion.
So as far as I'm concerned the file is now perfect, this is a perfect object, this filmaent is perfect, hamsters are perfect, and Sasquatch now has a permanent Hamstervitory forevah for realz. <3 I'll probably print another one with the improved file, which I'm sure just means I need to get another hamster...
My pets are never, ever spoiled. Ever. >.>
I don't have a rodent problem. I can stop any time I want. <.<
