they snap in place and most of them work both ways

my card reader is not from HP but from an old Fujitsu PC, so it didn't fit exactly, but I just bent the metal ends in and then it fit

I replaced the original cable on the PCB and the USB C socket with whatever dupont connectors I had on hand, so it can be changed in the future if needed, but soldering works just as well
