I got sent a cool project idea the other day and decided to make one. I'm not that good at making my soldering work look nice so I designed a case to hide it :D
Printed in Sunlu transparent purple PETG for that nice retro look.
If you decide to make this you will need:
- 40x60mm prototyping board
- It will need to have M2 mounting holes roughly 1mm in from the corners. I used one of these because it matched the ones in the original post best, no guarantees about any others.
- 4x M3x16 screws to screw the two case halves together
- Make sure the screw head fits inside the cutout! Or download the STEP files and modify it yourself.
- 4x M3x5mm heat set inserts
- 4x M2x12mm standoffs
- I used two 6mm ones each because that's what I had
- 10x M2x4mm screws
4x M2 washers- Four for fastening the prototyping board to the standoffs
- Four with washers for fastening the screen to the case front (these should probably be M2.5 judging by the holes in the screen PCB)
- Two for fastening the battery charging board cover/retainer
Features include:
- no support needed for anything
- hole on the side to mount a cool flip switch
- Not in the original schematic
- Pro tip: put the switch between the charging board positive and the microcontroller/screen VCC pins instead of between the battery and the charging board so you can charge the thing while it's off)
- Friction fit for the charging board with a little printed retainer plate that doubles as protection for the power contacts
Tips:
- Check the alignment of the buttons before you solder! They will only fit with the lets pointing out horizontally in a specific position. I unfortunately didn't take pics of it and I'm too lazy to open it again 🙃
