Abstract
This is a dice tower I designed. I'm particularly fond of those medieval-style towers, and I also want to be able to clearly see the whole process of the dice rolling down. So, I decided to design one myself.
In this design, I chose a plastic soda bottle body as the outer wall, with a diameter of 87 mm and a length of 170 mm, and the bottle wall remains straight. I used a 1.5-liter Dr. Pepper soda bottle. To make a door opening, just invert the bottle on the base, trace the inside of the door frame with a pen or pencil, and then cut out the opening along the traced line.
Tip: If the diameter of the bottle you have is slightly different, just scale the components according to the ratio X = d/87 - where d is the diameter of the bottle, in millimeters. The required length
On the windowsill at the back of the entrance, a small knight model is placed as a decoration to add a touch of fun. The model is provided by bs3
When printing, I set a large tilt angle for all components. I thought I wouldn't need much support to successfully form the parts, but in the actual printing process, some support was still necessary, especially for the staircase section. However, these supports were easy to remove, and I didn't encounter any difficulties in cleaning the parts.
Update: A new Spiral.stl file has been added, and the mesh structure is now more tidy and refined.
Updated on November 21, 2018: The new version Top_v2.stl is now available. Previously, some users reported that the contact points in the brick structure were too small, and the outer edges were prone to peeling off after printing. To address this issue, I appropriately increased the wall thickness, and I believe this problem has now been properly resolved. If you still encounter similar situations, please feel free to let me know. In addition, I have added a staircase to cover the alignment holes and made minor adjustments to the paving details, which enhances the overall refinement of the design.
Updated on December 4, 2018: I finally found the time to design a matching tray for the Dice Tower. This tray fits perfectly into the tower without any modifications and can be nested for storage, making it easy to transport and store. If your printer has some limited bridge-building capabilities, the tray can be printed without supports; however, for safety, I still recommend using a support structure. It's worth noting that the floral pattern decal in front of the pillars was not designed by me, but comes from Bruxxus
However, the final file is quite large, so I've also launched a simpler basic version of the tray, which can also perfectly fit the size of the dice tower and is easy to use without any hassle.
Update on May 10, 2019: The new version of Tray_v2 is now available. Some users reported that there were certain difficulties in printing the armrest, so I appropriately increased the wall thickness of the armrest. I hope this adjustment can effectively improve the printing effect. At the same time, I also provide two versions with low and high resolution - suitable for the printing needs of small and large files respectively.
