Visualizing the orientation of geological planes in the subsurface can be tricky for students as they are expected to extrapolate from one-dimensional data (e.g. borehole depths). We commonly use depth data from three boreholes to determine the orientation of the subsurface feature of interest. The solution is commonly referred to as the 3-point problem. This block model is the first of a series of models that help with the visualization of these types of problems.
This model consists of two separate parts: (1) base block that shows data from three boreholes, and (2) the cover block that show an inclined marker bed that sits over these boreholes. As with previous models, blocks can be created using a dual-extrusion printer or by gluing the pieces printed using a single-extrusion printer.
Dual-extruder printer files folder consists of four files. The base and cover files need to printed separately. Body and markerbed files need to be assigned different color filaments. Body and markerbed files can be merged in your printing software.
Single-extruder printer files folder contains .stl files for each individual pieces. Please check the reference diagram for file names and how the pieces should be put together.
