There are various “J-Hook” models out there for clipping onto the horizontal part of the wirerack, however, I needed a version that clips onto the vertical legs/posts. I am not too fond of having my horizontal shelving obstructed by items on clips, especially if the item is tall.
This simple yet effective design allows for just that, it clips onto the legs/posts so the horizontal shelving remains unobstructed.
The side with the small protruding ring on the inside is designed to clip onto the leg and sit into the little grooves. There are three versions available for ease of download:
- .5in holder ring
- 1in holder ring
- 1.5in holder ring
All three versions have the exact same clip on design for the leg/post side.
Some tips for clipping onto the leg/post: I have found it easiest to rotate the clip on ring towards the back and angle it downwards (or upwards) and pull it onto the leg/post. It will require a bit of force to gradually expand the clip so it wraps around fully. The clip on side of the object is designed with dual fillet on the top and bottom to make it easier for the expansion of the clip while pulling on.
Some tips for removing the clip: Rotate the ring to the front and exert some pull tension at an angle (against the fillet design) and the clip will eventually expand and come off.
The clip on ring is 1in diameter with a 20 degrees opening and is enough to hold it in place on the leg/post.
Printing Details:
- Prusa MK4 with MMU3 (Single Filament)
- 20% Speed Profile (or Structural)
- PETG (I used PETG+ from Microcenter)
- Supports: None
- 50% or greater Infill
- One may argue why do you even need this since I am recommending PETG and simply to strengthen the clips to survive more clips/unclips. Over time the clip will get slightly wider by doing more clip on and removals and subsequently not be as tight/flush on the leg/post
This item is a relatively quick print and filament consumption is low.
CAD File:
- Most of the dimensions in the CAD file are entirely variable driven since the clip on ring is reused for each version
- All three versions are within the same document as different “Part” tabs
- Duplicate as needed to create desired holder ring diameter
- The smaller the holder ring diameter the smaller the “wedge” angle/degrees need to be to maintain relatively the same opening
- The larger the holder ring diameter the larger the “wedge” angle/degrees need to be to maintain relatively the same opening
