Summary
This Nintendo Switch Joy Con grip is a little different than the other 3D designs which I have found, for two reasons.
-
Instead of using connectors made from the printed material, this design re-uses the metal slides from the Nintendo Joy Con Comfort Grip included with your Nintendo Switch. The metal slides ensure the printed part is long-lasting and 100% compatible with your Nintendo Joy Con so you don't have to worry about scratches or worn out slides on your Joy Cons.
- This design allows you to customize all facets of the design in Solidworks (source files included). For example, an easy adjustment is the angle of the joy cons, but you can also easily adjust the width of the grip, and the size of the gripping area.
Because of the fine detail in this print, I don't recommend printing it on an extrusion printer — but I would love to hear it works if I'm wrong!

I typically dilute my vat resins with 10% Monocure Flex 100 405nm Resin and 90% base resin (e.g., Anycubic Green). This significantly improves print durability and decreases the risk of cracking or shattering on sudden impact.
How I Designed This
This design started with the original Nintendo Joy Con grip. I removed the 3 philips screws which fasten the metal slides to the plastic housing of the Joy Con grip and carefully recreated the mounting surface in Soldiworks.
After I had double and triple checked the mounting surfaces dimensions in Solidworks against the physical dimensions of the Nintendo Joy Con grip I proceeded to build out the profile of the grip adapter design so that it closely matches the Joy Con.
The Solidworks file is composed of 2 main components:
- The mounting face, referred to as the "Fixture" in the included Solidworks file.
- The remaining grip geometry which attaches the two mounting faces and forms the overall grip body.
