About the Building

The Hearst Tower sits in Midtown Manhattan near Columbus Circle at the southwest corner of Central Park. It consists of two halves. The lower half is the original Hearst Magazine Building. This early art deco building was finished in 1928, as part of a new but ultimately unfinished entertainment complex envisioned by William Randolph Hearst. In the year 2000, the Hearst Corporation started the process to finish the building with a modern tower extension, which was ultimately finished in 2006.

Most dice towers are inspired by medieval or fantasy themes. That works for most tabletop games, but I was playing something with cyberpunk themes.

This fusion of modern and classic architectural styles was the perfect addition for my Shadowrun campaigns, so I went ahead and made this tower to print.

Printing tips:

• The top part will print better upside-down. This is because the bottom has a significant overhang if it's right-side-up.
• The bar across the inside of the top piece is very long and needs supports.
• The .3mf file is already set up correctly.

Post-processing tips:

• If you don't like how loud the tower is, you can felt the inside. Felt tape is widely available.
• The two halves should fit together seamlessly. I went ahead and permanently affixed them using super glue (cyanoacrylate).
