A VERY simple spreader …
Basically, I was looking for a little piece of plastic that I could use to spread glue. Since it is covered in glue after use, I didn't want to bother with cleaning it and be able to trash it. So it had to be simple, cheap, and fast to print.
All models I could find online or here on printables were nicely designed spreaders, beautiful individual pieces, and relatively large to provide a comfortable user experience - someone put effort in designing them.
Rest assured, I didn't put effort in this one ;-), because it is intended to do the job and then be trashed.
It is 5 cm long, 1.5 (or 0.75 cm) wide and 1 mm high. The first 2 cm are angled for easy spreading. Literally … reading this will take you longer than making the model yourself ;-)


Ideal to print in bulk and keep a stock in your glue box.
Also great to mix stuff (e.g. two component glue).
Print settings:
- To keep the laddering on the angle face to a minimum, I printed with a layer height of 0.085 mm. Initial layer = 0.2 mm.
- Infill: no infill, it is just 5-10 layers.
Material:
- Well, here you might have to watch out … I used PLA, when mixing and spreading 2 component epoxy glue, the thin layers at the tip deformed a bit.
- Not really recommended: Anything that is reactive to organic solvents, since many glues contain organic solvents that can dissolve the material (e.g. ABS, ASA, …).
- However, (an untested idea) if you print it with ABS, which will slowly dissolve when getting in contact with most all-purpose glues, such as the ones from UHU or Pattex (classic toluol smell of Pattex), the spreader will be sacrificial and should dissolve into the glue while you spread. If you try smoothing out layer lines on printed objects, the dissolved material might contribute and help filling the ripples (?!?!?). If anyone tries that, please let me know whether it worked …
- PLA, PETG should work well for most glues, but without guarantee.
