Summary
These are panels and hooks for closing up the sides of my printer, the BfB 3Dtouch. I did this, and added a heater, so I can print in the winter in my garage. Even when the temp dips into the 50s or colder, the inside of my printer stays a balmy 85. Printing at a warmish temperature definately improves the print quality, even when the garage isn't freezing.
The useful STL is the 6 panel hooks tucked neatly together. I included an STL of 1 panel hook if someone has another use for it. Cad files, also.
Instructions
Bil of materials:
1 sheet of acrylic
1 roll of foam tape weather strip
6 panel hooks
The acrylic and weather strip I used are from Lowe's, shown in the attached photo. I aslo picked up there little drag cutter thingy, also shown. Very useful for cutting the holes.
step 1: cut 3 panels of acrylic, 37 by 30 cm.
step 2: on the long edge, cut two 6mm by 22mm holes in each panel, 1 cm in from the edge, about 20 cm apart.
step 3: cut and stick weather stripping around the edges of the panels, skipping a space above the holes, as shown in the photo. For the front panel, I had to cut away a bit of the stripping to avoid the control pad.
step 4: Print the 6 panel hooks. Mine are PLA, 0.5mm resolution. 10% fill.
Hang the hooks on the printer, 2 to a side. Hang the panels on the hooks. the weather stripping will stick to the plexiglass of the printer, keeping your prints warm and toasty.
