Chevy Volt lacks an easy to use manual release. If you remove a small square cover on the hatchback door, you can access a manual release that is 5/16" square. When the door is closed, it's upwards at a 45-ish degree angle.

You can use this with a standard 0.25" hex screwdriver (like any that takes different bit sizes).
