Summary
Version 1.2 (2025-03-12)
- Added TPU inset print option
- fixed some bugs
- updated description
Well, it has been some years already that this box model is online, and that people seem to like and use it. Always happy as a designer to see that happen.
Recently, a reader suggested to add an option for a (TPU) inset model so that the oddly shaped isolation rubber for the "ditch" could be self-printed. I absolutely see this as a great idea and added it.
There are now two more Customizer parameters:
- TPU inset: Setting this to non-zero adds the model for the rectangular "ring" meant to be printed with TPU/TPE/soft material. The parameter sets the height for this inset, and at the same time reduces the wall height on the main box model for the same amount.
- TPU inset X/Y reduction: Setting this parameter to non-zero reduces the width of the TPU model so that it can be installed easier into the ditch.
Version 1.1 (2016-08-21)
- added customizer tags and made it customizable
- added screw holes (either 2 or 4)
- fixed some bugs
- updated description
Version 1
This is my OpenSCAD universal case box for electronics. It comes with round corners, mounting noses, easy dimension settings and a lid that closes the box waterproof if applied with some sealant (hot glue or -less permanent- bicycle mouting grease).
Note that the standard plastics (ABS, PLA, PETG, Nylon) degrade in UV light. Do not expose the box to direct sunlight.
A note on the cable holes: customizer allows you to view the source code. Press the "View Code" button next to the "Create Thing" button. Then, find the section commented with
// **************************// ** YOUR OWN CUTOUTS HERE!// **************************and
// **************************// ** / CUTOUTS// **************************There, you can remove the two already there and add your own.
Print Settings
Printer:
Prusa i3 custom
Rafts:
No
Supports:
No
Resolution:
0.2 or 0.25
Infill:
30%, rectlinear
Notes:
- Print in any desired color or material.
- Adjust the
barrierToleranceglobal constant to make the "ditch" on the lid wider than its counterpart on the box. - I'd recommend printing with brim for ABS. Since it's round corners, the stress is not as high as with pointy ones, but still.
