Summary
Vortex manipulator from DrWho (and also torchwood).
Used photos as ref and the existing model from PiperSA
Major changes are (my interpretation):
- Leather strap goes over the middle as well as around the piece.
- Buttons are squashed spheres.
- Grill is open and has curved interior
- D-pad is integrated
- Size, shape, and position of holes, led, and screen are different.
Print Settings
Rafts:
No
Supports:
Yes
Resolution:
0.1
Notes:
Its a shell so infill not critical.
The smaller the layer height the better then end result. Its such a small object.
The buttons are separate to the case. You can split in Slic3r. I have not saved them in separate STL file.
Post-Printing
Design elements
- Top 3 buttons to be push buttons on circuit board or buttons below.
- D-pad to use capacitive sensing.
- Plug holes with Alu foil to act as sensors.
- Add circuit board underneath.
- Use punched brass metal foil for the audio screen.
- Add LEDs under new holes and the screen (includes light barriers underneath)
How I Designed This
This openSCAD file isn't as neat as I like to make them but IMHO its ok for such a one off.
Suggest you scale the final result to get it at the overall size you need. See end of file for params.
At the top of the .scad file is a parameter for resolution. The lowres setting makes it easy to manipulate in OpenSCAD by using low resolution curves. The highres setting will take ages (20 mins) to run or render. I suggest you rework the design (if desired) in lowres mode.
