The hinge tabs snapped off of TWO Rotho Greenline bio bins and I finally got around to making a replacement hinge.
There are cutouts / retainers for the nuts. The metal handle clears this hinge unless you have big gaps between the "lid side" and the "bin side" pieces. Using an 8mm dowel, as long as everything is aligned nicely, the hinge should have very little friction. This could be redesigned to use anything else as a pin. A pin could also be printed
Parts list:
1 x "Bio bin - lid side.stl"
2 x "Bio bin - bin side.stl"
1 x ⌀ 8mm wooden dowel (~10 cm)
7 x M3 nuts
7 x 12mm M3 machine screws (pan head or similar)
Assembly tips:
- Use 3mm drill bit to drill holes in the bin and lid
- Don't insert nuts into the cutouts before drilling the hole. I used the 3D printed parts as drill guides but you could also use a deep hole marker or something sharp to mark the spot and then drill after removing the 3D print.
A 50 second video about the fix, mostly for fun but you can also get an idea of how I assembled it: https://youtube.com/shorts/Fi1foW6eTKY
