I have always disliked how the standard mount for the TrueRC patch antennas created essentially a kink in the coax cables. I also hated how that design forced the 90 degree SMA connectors to push the front of the connector (the most delicate part of it!) right to the front of the goggles. I felt that this could potentially break in the event the goggles took a fall.
Instead, I decided to move the coax exit to the top of the mount. Happily, the coax cable is just the right length to reach the top SMA connectors on the goggles, which also means the connector itself is somewhat protected by its proximity to the goggle fan shroud.
I think they look better, and have found that range hasn't suffered at all in my applications, even though I am using stubby antennas on the bottom connectors now.
