Simple (magnetic) housing for a USB Power Delivery (USB PD) compatible splitter that outputs 5V via two USB-A ports, powered by a single USB-C port.

Parts

• USB Type-C breakout board
• [2x] USB Type-A breakout board
• [3x] Magnets, 6 mm diameter, 2 mm high
• Some spare wires, solder, etc.

Assembly

The USB Type-C breakout board should be set up with resistors that communicate to the power supply that it needs to be fed with 5V via the Power Delivery standard.

• (Optionally) Insert the three magnets into the base.
• Put the three boards into the base element.
• Cut four pieces of wire into the correct lengths.
• Take the boards out and solder them:
  • Connect all three pads marked VBUS.
  • Connect all three pads marked GND.
  • Optionally, you could connect the data lines (D+, D-) between USB-C and ONE USB-A port as well to allow for USB 2.0 data transmission on this port.
• Put the boards back in and put the lid on.
