Not long after I got my Switch Lite in 2019 I made a remix of a protective cover to act as a grip as well. I would go on to remix that remix for customization and easier prototyping. but in early December I traded it in for an Oled model when my Lite started drifting drastically. I contribute part of how long it lasted without/with minimal drift to my cover. so now I'm working on a new case for the Switch OLED model. I can't say if this will work with the original Switch model but feel free to try it out. it may be a bit shorter than the OLED, but feel free to try it out on it. I will include the Fusion 360 file if someone wishes to remix it or make their own gips for it. if you do, please upload them for other users as a Remix to this.
If you choose to play your switch Docked, sadly, you can't insert it into the dock with the case on. you will need to remove it to dock it. unless you modified the dock by putting it into a custom case

for a complete set, you will need to print the following.
1x Main body (w/kickstand if you want the case with it)2X Grips
2X release buttons
When you print the Main Body, Print it on either the left or right sides. for how tall it will be print it with a Brim along the bottom for extra rigidity along with the supports.
Recommend Support for Grips
No support is required for the Release buttons.
Post-Printing
Assembly
By now you should have everything needed.
Start by removing all the support material.
For the grips, I recommend boring out the holes for the release buttons. Be careful and use a drill bit similar in diameter to the hole there. this should make it smoother for the release button.
Prepare a 1mm metal dowl or a paper clip to act as a pin for the release button. you may need to drill out the hole for it to make it easier to insert in. cut to length with some extra material to bend 90 degrees. insert the pin into the grip and through the release button.
as for the main body with all the support removed, you will need to remove some material from the rail on the highest part of the print. CAREFULLY use a utility knife or Exacto-Blade to remove less than a millimeter from it. or if you wish, you can also send it as well. always test to make sure the grip(s) will easily slide on and off. but not too easy off, unless you want to glue it on.
if you printed the Kickstand version, remove the support and cut 1mm dowels to length. and use needlenose players to insert it into the holes. you may need to drill them out a bit with a small drill bit.
by now you should be finished and able to insert your switch into the case facing either way.
