This model has two halves which twist-lock together around your fruit (or vegetables) while they are growing. I designed it to stop, or at least discourage, rats and mice from eating my mandarins and tomatoes.
The inside diameter is 7cm. I have tried scaling the model down to 85% and that worked too. Im sure you can scale it up without any problems.
I print them with a 0.6mm nozzle. As for supports, they do need a little. I use organic supports and to save some effort when removing them, I block the supports at the lower part of the model (using the Prusa slicer paint-on-supports feature). See my screenshots for what my supports and blocked supports look like.
There are four files.
(1) a plain geodesic dome. (2) a geodesic dome with a slot that will be placed around the fruit's stalk. (3) a male lock ring and (4) a female lock ring.
For assembly you will need to sand/file the male lock ring slightly. Look at my photo with the red circles showing which parts may need filing. The next step is to slide the rings together. This will take some effort with your fingers because it will be quite tight the first time. The rings will loosen up over time.
Once the rings are fitted together, wipe them clean with a paper towel, then superglue them to the geodesic domes. Make sure that you line up the slots of male ring with the slotted geodesic dome! The reason for fitting the rings together before gluing is to make sure that they will still fit together after gluing.
In case your rat is very clever or determined, you can use some garden wire like I have here to prevent the rings from being twisted apart by the hangry rat.
