Summary
My toddler nephew has a bay window in his living room that he likes to sit in. Unfortunately he developed a fondness for opening the sash locks on the windows, leading his parents to be concerned that he could push the window open and potentially fall out. I was tasked with coming up with a solution. I designed a hook that secures over the lock lever, preventing it from being opened, and presented them with the three variations shown in the video. The first uses a small padlock to secure the hook. The second holds it in place with a torsion spring inside a handle that needs to be squeezed to be removed. The third uses a catch on a flexing panel that needs to be lifted away from the base while pulling up on the hook to remove it. We ultimately decided on a combination of the first and third versions; the final version can be fitted with a padlock for greater security, or left restrained by just the catch for minimal security.
