I have recently fell down the rabbit hole of meshtastic and Rnode within the last year, there are many awesome cases from this flourishing community. However the biggest pet peeve i have is that the most popular ones do not have remixing allowed, which i personally feel hampers the community from making new ideas and wider adoption of this hobby.
I PRESENT “The Wallop”
this case is meant to solve the issue of no remixing, it is licensed under the Public Domain allowing remixing culture,
its features include, 4 main parts that are modular
the battery case, the board holder, the shell and the lid
this allows for people to remix this case to fit different boards and different hardware, which i feel no other case allows. I have also added the option to 3d print a rubber shell for added durability.
The inception of this case was originally to make a RAK case that allows the E-ink Screen, which is possible to use via meshtastic if you build it from source.
i did get the firmware working, however i never did finish the screen holder. As i found reticulum that does NOT support the screen at this time, i decided to drop working on the screen. The screen holder is still in the STEP if anybody wants to tweak or remix it.
Another feature, is there is a print in place sliding door for the USB C connector
this stops pocket lint from jamming up your ports.
by no means is this a perfect design but it works well for my purposes, and i feel the community deserves a fully open case.
Hardware
4 m3-20mm screws (holding the case together)
4 m3 nuts (holding the case together)
4 m2 screws (for rak board mount)
(not necessary)
i find a small amount of bubble wrap or foam to put in the battery compartment to help snug it up and stop it for rattling aswell as to help soften the blows from drops
