Summary
This is a replacement vent clip mount for my phone charger.
I have an iOttie Easy One Touch Wireless 2 Air Vent/CD with 10W Qi Wireless Charging Mount - Black that I really like, but the vent clip kept sliding off, and my phone has tumbled into my lap countless times. I redesigned the clamp to have small hooks on the far end that would positively engage the back of the vent louver, yet still be removable.
Printing in ABS is required to withstand the heat of a car parked in the summer sun. PLA does not work as it deforms.

I oriented the part on the build plate so the groove slices vertically down, removing the need for internal supports. I laid just the edge of the square part on the build plate, leaving the part horizontal.
Post-Printing
After printing the ball will need to be sanded round, otherwise the phone mount won't grip it.
How I Designed This
I designed it in OpenSCAD to match the original part as closely as possible. The threads I originally created were like a rounded worm to match the original part. They worked OK for a year, but the shape was not perfect and it made it difficult to turn the clamping screw. When the charger got knocked off the ball last week, I found I had made the part so compact it was difficult to tighten both the clamp nut and the ball clamp; even so, it popped right off again. So I lengthened the cone that connects the thread tower to the ball, giving me clearance to tighten the parts independently, which was a huge advantage. I extended the cut into the tower to make the legs a little more flexible. And I replaced the cheesy worm threads with a 60 degree angled thread form, generated by the terrific Open Source NOPscadlib project. https://github.com/nophead/NopSCADlib (No, it's not a standard thread form, I made it specifically to fit their provided nut:) The clamp nut now spins freely on the thread, and the ball clamp tightened right up without interference.
