I own a 2020 Honda Odyssey, and there really isn’t a good spot for a phone mount, plus many of the available options are a bit pricey. I had the idea to use a MagSafe phone mount that plugs into the 12V accessory outlet. I found a couple online. The first one I ordered would have been perfect, but it didn’t work as advertised, so it was sent back.
I then came across something similar from Scosche: the Scosche MAG12V2 Magnetic Power Mount (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00I9I8O2Q?th=1). The original mount came with a magnetic base, but it did not charge, and I wasn’t about to stick their metal plate to my phone. I already had another mount that was MagSafe, but the ball was a different size, even though both were made by Scosche.
I was about to design one myself and decided to see if someone else had the same idea. That’s when I found “Scosche car mount ball adapter to 17mm” by MagicMitch (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4492909/makes
). I downloaded it right away and sent it to the printer.
I ran into a couple of printer issues with the ball and the bottom of the mount, but a bit of sanding took care of most of it, not perfect, but usable. The ball was slightly too large for my MagSafe mount, and the stem hole was also a bit oversized for my mount. For my setup, it also needed to be a little longer.
I ended up remaking it by reducing the ball diameter and extending the shaft. We’ll see how everything holds up.
