Summary
I designed this little box to house a DS3231SN digital clock module.
The LED display measures 40.3 X 12.7 mm’s.
The green circuit board under the led display measures 40.5 X 13 mm’s.
I made 3 versions.
A stand alone module housing.
A module housing with a toggle switch.
A module housing with a switch with a mounting channel so I can hang it on the top edge of a drawer. I used a different switch in the picture.
I added a 0.25 brim to the opening for the toggle switch. And I added an Easter Egg. On top of the 0.25 brim, inside of the toggle switch cavity are 2 little buttons that will fit into the 2 holes that line up with the 2 push button switches on the digital clock module. Trim away post print. On the stand alone housing they are on the end attached by a 0.25 brim.
Trim down the 2 buttons. I used a pair of flush cut diagonal cutters. Then I used tweezers to drop the 2 buttons into the 2 holes and kept the unit facing down while I slid in the module. Its tricky and you have to finesse it a little because it’s a tight fit. After the module is in place it will hold the 2 little buttons in place.
It is a tight fit but the module will fall out if you tap it upside down. For your final assembly you may want to add a blob of silicon or a drop of super glue to hold the module in place.
I also made a stand and a din rail mount. The stand is for the shorter box with no switch. The din rail mount is for the longer box with the switch. I embedded a 3mm brass nut insert into the din rail mount. I used a 3X6mm screw to bolt them together.
How nice will it be to open up a machine panel and find a 24 hr digital clock inside. I added the switch because I figure the doors are closed about 99% of the time.
