Design

I designed this using Inkscape and FreeCAD. I recreated the front of the jailbird as an svg and imported it to FreeCAD and worked from there.

There is a “detail” variant, with the intention to draw the wings, eyes and beak. The other is only the outline.

Printing

Nozzle: 0.4mm
Wall thickness: 0.42mm
Layer height: Initial layer 0.2mm, 0.16mm or smaller for the rest

Materials and food safety

You should use a printing material safe for food! PLA is often recommended, but always double-check with the manufacturer, or the technical sheet of the material.

Nozzle material is important too! brass nozzle may contain lead, try using a hardened steel nozzle. Steel only nozzles are fine too, but some may contain coatings inside so the filament runs smoothly, always double check!

A small layer height is recommended, as to not get food in between layers. You can also coat the mold with a food-safe epoxy.

Cleaning should be regular! always before and after use. Don't use warm water, as it might deform the PLA.
